Are parents responsible for their children’s eating disorders?

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen says weak families are to blame for anorexia -- not the fashion industry that has been widely criticized for promoting waifish silhouettes, Reuters reports.



"I never suffered from this problem (anorexia) because I had a very strong family base. Parents are responsible, not the fashion industry," she said in the Friday edition of O Globo newspaper.

Gisele, who was ranked 16 on Forbes' list of the 20 richest women in entertainment this week, said that being skinny just goes with the territory in cat-walking.

"Everybody knows that the norm in fashion is thin," said the model who is 5'11" and 125 pounds. "But excuse me, there are people born with the right genes for this profession."

I THINK A PART OF ANOREXIA IS DEPRESSION DISORDER AND THAT ALONE IS GENETIC..

I agree with Gisele, honestly... nowadays, most of the highest supermodels aren't really... anorexic skinny anyway, Gisele being one of them, Tyra being another...

But, yeah.. when these girls are barely 20 and usually even younger and their bodies are at the point where they are dying, then they have been sick for a long time... and it is definitely the people in their lives responsibility to see that there is obviously something wrong.

And if the person is say... under 18 and still living at home? How do you seriously not notice your child weighs barely anything... I mean, I have always been skinny, but never anorexic even though people would often ask me, but I don't think they really believed it... just... when someone is unhealthy from not eating there are signs and I don't think anyone can blame a magazine or a picture instead of what was immediately in the persons life.
