Winter Wanderer

Its almost here. Everyone can feel it.

Its a quiet time of wind and rain.
But its the snow, I wait for.
Not the harsh snow of the North, but Texas snow.
Slow and Light. Yeilding and Silent.
Southern and Soft.

Its a thing that I appreciate in its rare form.
The last time I saw snow in Texas, I was a freshman at UT San Antonio.
And it snowed for us. What was that...2, 3 years ago? 3 I think.
Shit. Feels like forever ago.


Work is getting overwhelming.
Roman History midterm on Friday. Greek project due Thursday. Registration for my Senior classes and seminars. Handling my transcripts and rec letters. Dealing with all of my law school applications. Preparing for my LSAT in December. Trying to smooth down a job with the court over Winter break. And perhaps next summer, as well.



Leaving the shelter of home and all its safety is an inevitable thing. There is an indelible point at which all humans must leave the nest and strike out on their own. Where is it that we all find tis sudden urge to be free and self-dependent? Genetically encoded is this...manifestation of freedom and spirit. Self-sufficiency and pride. Or maybe we all just need to get away from everything, everyone, that we've known for the first two decades of our lives??

The real trick is survival.
Accomodation of resources.
Physical safety and protection.
A sense of one or community.
Standing tall by ourselves.
Bills to pay, time to live.


Dragon incense and Lavendar bath salts.
Mini-Gundams and laquered chopsticks.
Sharing tea on the stone portico...

30 minute goodbyes and whispers of truth.
